JAYCEE ISLAND

Public BBQ

Jaycee Island sits prettily beside the water in Benalla, presenting itself with the sort of modern confidence that makes you wonder if someone forgot to finish the job. The design is undeniably sleek – all clean lines and contemporary flourishes that photograph beautifully for the council brochures. Yet there's something oddly static about the place, as if the playground designer had a brilliant vision but ran out of steam halfway through implementation. The waterside setting is genuinely lovely, offering that particular Australian combination of practical picnic facilities and natural charm that works so well for families. Children seem to gravitate toward the more adventurous elements scattered about, though you can't help noticing the conspicuous gaps where additional features might have lived.
